Oakland Raider Sits for Anthem, Sits Out Game After Pushing Ref | Heart May Be In The Right Place – Actions Not So Much

“It was another act of disrespect that caused Lynch to sit out most of the game, however. After he elicited a penalty for “unsportsmanlike conduct,” Lynch protested by shoving one of the officials. As a result, Lynch was ejected from the game and, reportedly, ending up sitting in the stands to watch the remainder of the contest.”

Sounds bad and it is, but there is an interesting spin on Lynch’s penalty.

Marshawn Lynch was protecting Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters when the Oakland Raiders running back ran off the sidelines and onto the field in the middle of a melee in the Raiders’ 31-30 victory Thursday, Oakland left tackle Donald Penn said.

Peters had just been flagged for a late hit on Raiders quarterback Derek Carr with 6:05 to play in the second quarter when Penn, left guard Kelechi Osemele and right guard Gabe Jackson went after Peters, prompting Lynch’s sprint.

“You know, Marshawn is his cousin, man. They’re like brothers,” Penn told SportsCenter’s Michael Eaves on Friday.”

So Lynch was trying to protect his cousin from members of his own team and fouled a ref in the process. Not smart. Not helpful. Sitting for the Anthem doesn’t work either.
