“The series follows a Cuban-American family led by a single mother. In one of the first episodes, a man named Schneider, who is the superintendent of the building Alvarez lives in, comes into her apartment wearing a t-shirt bearing the face of communist Che Guevara.
Alvarez explodes, calling Guevara come mierda, a Cuba insult meaning someone is stupid or foolish.
In reply, Schneider says “Viva la revolución!”
Alvarez and the rest of her family then inform Schneider that Guevara was “Castro’s right-hand man” and that to them, the Guevara shirt is like wearing a shirt with Hitler’s image on it in a Jewish family’s home. “He burned books, personally he banned music, he personally oversaw executions, he was a mass murderer!” says 14-year-old Elena”
